The modern Bulgarian alphabet consists of the 30 letters. Six of the letters are vowels: е, и, а, ъ, о and у. The rest are consonants.
Non-verbal communication is very important in Bulgaria. In most European countries, you nod your head to say ‘yes’ and shake it to say ‘no’. In Bulgaria, a shake
of the head – means Yes, while the upward movement of the head – means no (He).
