The Romanian alphabet is a version of the Latin alphabet and consists of 31 letters.  Romanian also uses diacritics.

The letters K,QW, and Y are rare in Romanian and occur only in foreign words and those adopted into Romanian. The letter K however does appear in proper names.

Notable features of Romanian include two unusual diphthongs /e̯a/ and /o̯a/ and the central vowel /ɨ/.

In Romanian, î and â represent the same sound (/ɨ/).
î is used at the beginning and end of words, whilst â is used everywhere else.
î is, however, still retained when adding prefixes: înțeles → neînțeles.
